Eco-Friendly Packaging

Eco-Friendly Packaging

Stocking Packaging of the Past (and Future)

Nearly two years ago, I made a video showing you stocking packaging of the past and told you my aim was to swap our plastic stocking bags over to an eco friendly alternative by the end of 2019.

Things did not go to plan, and I'm grateful that none of you pulled me up on it. 2020 has been an eco-disaster, with a lot of the improvements companies have made, such as encouraging us to use reusable coffee cups, thrown to the wayside. Instead, we're faced with an onslaught of disposable facemasks and more plastic than ever before.

At What Katie Did, although our progress has been extremely slow and infuriating at times, our eco stocking packaging will be here at the end of October and we will be swapping our Glamour Seamed Stockings over from that date.

When Will We See the New Packaging?

The new packaging is due to arrive at WKD HQ at the end of October 2020. Stockings have to be made in large quantities so we will have to wait until current stock is sold before we change over to the eco packaging. This will mean that some of our stockings will be plastic wrapped and some not. It will probably take one year before all our Glamour Seamed Stockings are wrapped in paper.

Will All Our Stockings Be Wrapped in Paper?

At the moment only our Glamour Seamed Stockings will be wrapped in paper. For both Fully Fashioned Stockings and Seamed Tights we don't sell enough to warrant the 25,000 minimum packaging order. In addition, as Fully Fashioned Stockings are very delicate we think it's important for you to see the stockings you're actually purchasing.

Why can't we just wrap our stockings in plain paper bags like Snag Tights do? Seamed hosiery can have a slightly oily residue (we've never noticed it either) which meant that our packaging supplier (who also supplied Snag) wouldn't work with plain paper packaging.

In addition, unlike Snag, at What Katie Did our nylons are available in retail boutiques and customers like to see the product they're buying in real life.
