7th May - What Katie Did on This Morning
This Morning featured our
Harlow lingerie range as part of a feature on retro style lingerie. Although
most of the clip can be viewed on
This Morning's website unfortunately they clipped our little bit off the
end! Never mind, we'll keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow when they're doing
a burlesque fashion feature which will hopefully include some of our corsets.
25th April - Nude Magazine
Last night Tony Nylons and myself headed over to the Horse Hospital for the
launch of Nude magazine number 13.
It's a bit freaky spending time back in London as I keep on bumping into people
from the past and last night was no exception as Ian (co producer and editor)
used to have a stand right behind us back in our Camden market days. It's a
small world and all that.
For any naughty boys out there: Nude
magazine has very little to do with nudes (although they might make an
appearance from time to time). It's a 'music, graphics and hip lit' magazine or
alternative-arty as I call it! Ian and Suzy came to Clare's SS08 collection
party in our boutique a few weeks ago and the new issue of
Nude has a quarter page feature on
it - but much more interesting is Nick Clement's '50s photographic feature
(left), the Barry Clifford (Wild at Heart, Peridita Durango author) interview
and the article about retro illustrator Mitch O'Connell's work.
23rd April - Move Over Agent Provocateur!
No it isn't us getting big-headed: it's what the Alison Tay over at Now magazine
is saying!
'I only have three vices: spending my hard-earned Style Editor salary on
designer handbags, black cabs and Agent Provocateur underwear.
But thanks to What Katie Did's faux vintage lingerie collection, I may have
found a way to my expensive underwear habit in check.
Expect a tongue-in-cheek range of full and under the bust corsets, bullet bras,
opera gloves – every girl should own a pair – stockings and hold-ups that
wouldn't look out of place in Bettie Page's bottom drawer.'
22nd April - What Katie Did in The
Daily Telegraph
The Daily Telegraph devoted a page to Katherine Jenkins yesterday and along with
an interview they copied 4 of Marilyn Monroe's most famous looks including a
fabulous pink dress for 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'. Unfortunately our
picture is one of the less famous - it could be 'There's no Business Like Show
Business', 'Bus Stop' or 'A Prince and a Showgirl'.
The picture above features
our
seamed fishnet tights, and although the gloves aren't ours we do
very
similar ones. The corset is by Vollers. We've wanted to get into The
Telegraph for ages as the fashion pages are so great, fingers crossed they'll
include What Katie Did again.
18th April - We're still here! Plus news
about Nylon Flash...
It's over a month since I last posted here and I
thought I'd better keep in touch to let you know we're still here! The last few
weeks have been pretty crazy, even by WKD standards so the news page has slipped
a little. I don't have time to update recent press (not even for I-D!) as I'm
working on far more important things: getting a few limited edition lines ready
for a launch on 1st May and lots of other things that unfortunately I can't make
public yet!
Someone who is ready to go public is Mr Tony Nylons who is
launching his new photographic pin up club 'Nylon
Flash' on 15th May (the date was chosen as it's the day nylons first went on
sale in New York in 1939). Nylon Flash
is a club for lovers of nylon stockings and comprises a bi-monthly full colour
newsletter featuring exclusive photographs by Tony, along with various special
offers and events. Find out more about it
here.
11th March 2008 - What Katie Did
SS08 Collection Launch
Our boutique manager,
Clare, had a little party in our boutique to launch our new SS08
collection. Although plenty of time had been allowed to ensure
everything ran smoothly, the new ranges arrived very late which meant
they made it on to the shop floor with minutes to spare (thank you to
Ruby Rouge who came early to
drop off bustles and immediately got stuck in hanging up our new items).
Slinky Sparkles (top picture)
and Millicent Binks (bottom picture left with Naomi from
Vintage Secret) performed in
the new ranges whilst Clare (middle picture left - seen here with
Trixie Malicious and Fiona from
Black Pearl) ensured
that the champagne was topped up.
Elsewhere wholesale manager
Richard was soon discussing Bristols (the cars!) whilst Tony Rusecki
took time out from the Casting
Couch to ensure the proceedings were all caught on film.
And me? Well, I'm saving myself for
Polly's bash at the Soho
Review Bar tomorrow.
11th March 2008 - What Katie Did in Look
Magazine
Look magazine have done a little Bardot inspired hair and make up
feature this week (cover dated 17th March), all back combed hair and eyeliner.
They've dressed the model in our
powerlace corselette and
Maitresse bullet bra.
Update: Gina's pointed out that our
Maitresse bra has also been used on the main High Street Fashion section on
page 85.
11th March 2008 - Frilly Knickers in
Lilac
We've had so may new items arrive over the last couple of weeks I
feel I really should mention our best selling
frilly knickers are now available in lilac - otherwise you'll probably miss
them.
29th February 2008 - What Katie Did on
the cover of Time Out magazine.
Clare has been inspired by Fiona from
Black Pearl (one of our
stockists) who had a little Hula get together last week and wants to have one
for our shop. As our new collection is arriving in the next couple of weeks it's
ideal timing for us to crack open the champagne and have a little 'new
collection shop launch'. Our get together will be taking place on Wednesday 12th
March between 6.30 and 8.30pm at our
London boutique. You'll
have to come to the side entrance of the Portobello Green Arcade as the shutters
will be down on the other two entrances. Miss Slinky Sparkles and friends will
be showing off our new lingerie lines and Tony Rusecki will be on hand should
you need any information about his
Casting Couch pin up photo-sessions.
27th February 2008 - What Katie Did in
Look Magazine
Our
long sheer gloves are featured in this week's Look magazine (cover date 3rd
March). Make sure you snap up a pair before the fashionistas spot them!
22nd February 2008 - New Collection
Launch with the Hurly Burly Girls
I spent a rather glamorous afternoon
this week shooting with Tony Rusecki
and Miss Polly Rae at the extremely luxurious
Gore Hotel. I felt a bit naughty taking
the afternoon off as I had so much to do in the office, but I'd been trying to
catch up with Polly for weeks to discuss plans and within 5 minutes she'd come
up with a killer idea. Polly is head of the
Hurly Burly burlesque troupe who
have a monthly show at the Soho Review
Bar. Their next show is on Saturday 16th March and Polly suggested using it
as a launch for our SS08 collection. The show will include 4 pieces set around
our lingerie: Striptease, Pigalle, Retro Swimwear and Harlow.
I'll be doing an official email newsletter next week with more information
about the show (as well as our new collection which is due to arrive any day
now) next Friday, but if you're desperate to book tickets now they're £12
in advance from Ticket Web or £15 on
the door (be warned the last few shows have sold out).
15th February 2008 - London Fashion Week
News
We've spent the last week at the Metropolitan Hotel as part of London
Fashion Week. To tell you the truth it's rather like being in prison: albeit a
very luxurious prison with a never ending supply of ornate cupcakes, strawberry
cream chocolates, sushi and champagne arriving at random times to the room we
were sharing with the Ministry of
Burlesque. Luckily wholesale manager Richard smuggled in a kettle so we
could have a nice cup of tea (yes, you really can have too much of a good
thing).
Due to good behaviour we were allowed out on Tuesday evening for the Met's
infamous pink drinks party where performers from the Ministry of Burlesque,
after a full day in 4 inch heels, swapped over to
Terry de Havillands 6 inchers and
WKD corsets to hand out yet more chocolates. In a high fashion environment it
didn't come as a surprise that the champagne ran out way before the chocolates
so myself, Tony Rusecki and Fiona
from Black Pearl ran around
the corner for some dinner and peace and quiet!
Notice the wigs? They're made by
Yuki and really were spectacular.
7th February 2008 - Burlesque for
Beginners by The Ministry of Burlesque
The Ministry of Burlesque's
instructional DVD
has arrived just in time for
Valentine's Day. If you'd like to give your boyfriend a treat then we suggest
you invest a mere £12.99 and learn the most seductive way to remove an evening
glove. Although the DVD is aimed at beginners it really goes into a lot of
detail including everything from tassels (how to twirl and how to make your own)
to fan dancing to seductive pin up poses. The MOB run burlesque and costuming
workshops all over the UK and the DVD gives you a taster of what you can expect. Here Kittie gives us the lowdown:
