I'm not going to try and convince you that corsets are the most sensible things to wear in the Summer, but if you're someone who wears a corset all year around (as I do) then a sheer corset is a great addition to your collection.
I was asked to make a single layer sheer corset for someone last Summer but wasn't convinced it would hold up to daily wear and tear. Having worn one for most of last Summer as well as today, I can confirm that a single layer is up to the job.
Shown here in sheer peach with hot pink satin, you can choose your own colour combination on our 'Design Your Own Corset' page. We can only make our single layer designs in corsets which do not feature hip gores.
It molds to your body immediately, you don't have that initial stiffness you find with multi layer corsets.
It gives a less bulky line under clothing which makes it ideal for warmer months when your dresses are lighter.
It will be a little cooler and lighter to wear. I've tested it in Los Angeles, Italy and India!
It looks really pretty
Being a single layer means it won't last as long as a triple layer corset. Famed corsetier Mr Pearl told me that it wasn't unheard of for a single layer corset to last just a month on someone who tightlaces 23/7. However, I've been wearing mine for 8-12 hours a day, for 4 months and the fabric is showing no signs of wear.
You do need to be aware of external influences such as cigarettes and sharp objects. Although I say in the previous paragraph that my sheer corset shows no signs of wear, this is from normal wear. In fact, one day I wore it under a boned dress which had the raw edge of a plastic bone digging into my waist. When I got home (after walking 4 miles to and from work) there was a little hole in the sheer fabric caused by the raw edge of the bone in my dress. I darned this and it hasn't got any worse. Just a warning in case you're a professional fire eater or knife thrower.
We don't recommend single layer corsets as you're only corset if you're waist training as they will not last as long as our standard range. Unless, of course, you have an unlimited budget in which case, go for it!
These corsets are designed to work hard and reduce your waist by up to 5 inches. Please deduct 4 to 5 inches from your normal waist measurement to work out your corset size: a natural waist of 28 inches will give a corset size of 24 inches, whilst a natural waist size of 31 inches will give a corset size of 26 inches.
