The start of Autumn is always a glorious time of year - gold leaves on the trees, cosy cardigans in our drawers and an oppourtunity to get back into our stockings and enjoy styling the sharp suits and tailoring Summer is often too warm to allow us to.  As beautiful as Autumn is however, we do often find September is one of those months that rather gets away from us! What with school, university and winter working hours starting again, the Goodwood Revival and a rush to catch up on all those little jobs and meetings before the long dark days set in, the month always seems to pass in a bit of a rush! Reclaim your spare moments by investing in some day-to-night pieces, saving you dressing time while oozing elegance.

Maitresse Lingerie

When we’re in need of classic clothes therapy, the Forties is the decade we turn to. Its minimalist tailoring is all you need to create a swish look that can take you from day to night. We’ve started our foundations here with our famous Maitresse Bullet Bra, (here in the Curve option for the fuller busted Miss Deadly Red). Comfortable, supportive, and with the staying power to keep you looking pert all day long, this bra will take you from a day right through the evening.

Maitresse LingerieTo match the bra, we’ve chosen a pair of our floaty CC09 French Knickers. All our continuity lingerie is mix and match, so you can rest assured that items from different ranges will always go todgether, no matter what you're wearing. These knickers are super comfortable and silky soft, with just a little bit of a sassy float to keep your feeling a little flirty! They also act as a short petticoat, ensuring that straight Forties skirts hang properly with no knicker line (much quicker than struggling with a seperate slip when . As we’ve chosen such light knickers, we’ve gone for a lightly shaping suspender belt (the deep version of our Maitresse Nouveau) to add a little definition and support to your stomach. Here, they’re worn under the knickers to ensure a clean line.

MaitresseWe’ve teamed this outfit with a pair of our Glamour Seamed Stockings in Claret, a warm burgundy shade which perfectly matches the tone of the dress. As the weather gets darker and colder, a coloured seam is the perfect way to lift an outfit from being to drab, while remaining elegantly understated.

Forties Fatale

Now, to the clothes! This beautiful dress is by The Seamstress of Bloomsbury, a small company with a fascinating history. They are named for Lilian Wells, the original Seamstress of Bloomsbury, who created beautiful Forties designs in Bloomsbury Square, London. Lilian’s designs were admired and sought after by the great and good of the time, and are now being brought back to life by The Seamstress of Bloomsbury, who revive her original patterns and designs, creating beautiful  designs from long-gone dresses. This Clarice dress is a beautiful example of their work. Made from Rayon Crepe de Chine, this dress hangs beautifully down from its bodice in an A-line skirt, with a tie waistband creating a softly draped waist (shaping echoed in the blouson sleeves) and detailing added by the front buttons.

Forties FataleForties FataleThe dress is so simple and elegant, that adding extra colour into the mix would have ruined its effect, so instead we have accessorised in black but using texture to add interest. These sweet little ankle strap shoes by Miss L Fire add a bit of lift to the leg, avoiding drabness while remaining super comfortable for a long day. A chunky black bead necklace by Splendette echoes the round shape of the collar, while an incredible feather headdress by Pearls and Swine drops in a hint of luxury. To top it off, this vintage wicker basket handbag is big enough to store everything you’ll need, without being too bulky.
