And talking about the sets, who builds your sets and gets the props
in - and how long does it take? It
depends. Since my only set building skills are limited to glue,
cardboard and staples, sometimes my set designer friends help me out
(yup,I owe a lot of favours!). Many times I borrow from thrift
stores etc. When people walk into my "studio" they see this thing
that looks like a sloppy 6th grade art project that's supposed to
be the set - you should see their faces!
What do you look for in a model?
That they show up on time and that they actually look like the
overly retouched photos they send me. I really look for good
performance skills - and confidence. Not all pretty girls make good
models. I've had gorgeous babes show up for a shoot that couldn't
even stand in heels, Total disaster- Many times I see these mousy
unassuming girls that are complete vixens in front of the camera,
Roarrrrrrr!!
You seem to play with lots of different eras in your pictures from
the fifties to space-age - any favourite period? It depends on
what my fetish of the day is- behind the colorful cartoony setups
there's a slight touch of perversion. But as long as there's a pair
of legs in heels involved, Any time is party time in winkyland.
You've shot model and performance artist Masuimi Max, wearing some
saucy vintage lingerie and you told me you really like the style of
the clothes. What is it with corsets, girdles and stockings that
still make some of us go completely ga ga in this day and age?I
gotta tell ya, I can get as equally excited on a well put together
stocking gettup on a sexy pair of leggies as well as looking at a
hot 50's street rod. Even better if the girl was in the backseat of
that car and now we're in retro-nirvana. I guess its the elements of
design and attention to detail that bring out the most primal
instincts in every beer drinking, meat loving, sex driven beast on
this planet. I'm a sucker for these so called objects of desire.
