What Katie Did - in the press
Yesterday our Maitresse Bullet Bra was modelled by glamour model Nicola T in Celebs on Sunday magazine (The Sunday Mirror).

Whilst our Glamour Girdle is featured in Feb/March's Wonderland magazine.

Some of you might also have noticed our Josephine cheetah print lingerie on ITV's This Morning on Friday 12th February. For those of you with a saucier outlook on life check out Skin Two's review of our lingerie book (warning, their site is not work friendly!)
What Katie Did Boutique Revamp
It's been nearly a month since I last posted, but as usual, it's not that we've been lazy! I can't tell you everything that we've been up to (don't worry, you won't have to wait long to find out) but can let you know of our most immediate plans: our London boutique revamp.
The What Katie Did boutique can only be described as rather bijous, which means that at busy times it's not only our girdles that feel snug! We really do love Portobello and wouldn't dream of moving so have managed to persuade our landlords to let us knock down that wall between our boutique and next door. The result will give us more space which we'll divide into a dressing area and a little press office. The dressing area will be of most interest to you as you'll be able to book it in advance if you know you're going to need a lengthy fitting session, whilst your boyfriend can relax with a cup of coffee and the latest issue of Peek magazine away from the bustle of the main boutique. We're also taking the opportunity to revamp our existing boutique, giving it a more glamorous and opulent feel. Staff-wise things are also changing: our current manageress, Nicola, is leaving to concentrate on her make up career (she just done her first cover for Front magazine - out next month - and is a regular at LFW). Vicky (Nicola's ex boss!) is going to take over as manageress: you might have already met her as she's already done a few Saturdays for us.
Meanwhile Mam'zelle Maz will be joining Clare in what must surely be the most glamorous press team in London.
Unfortunately we don't have a magic wand and we will have to close for two weeks for the work to take place. We'll be closing at 6pm on Saturday 13th February, re-opening on Monday 1st March.
Make a note in your diary to keep Sunday 7th March clear. That's the launch date for Peek magazine, a new magazine devoted to stockings, fun and frolics! Join us at our boutique between 2 and 4pm to meet the Peek team and have a bit of a knees up!

What Katie Did Boutique News
I had a great afternoon with Nicola in our boutique yesterday busily lacing girls into corsets and poking and prodding in a Gok Wan type fashion! Luckily it all went well and we even managed to help burlesque artiste Vicky Butterfly find some lingerie to go with a new costume (all top secret and hush hush). The only downside is that we didn't get chance to finish our Christmas decorations as it was a little busy. We are definitely going to get them finished for our first late night shopping evening which takes place on Wednesday 25th November (until 9pm). The Portobello Green arcade along with the surrounding area will all be open and there will be burlesque performances and entertainment outside. Even Mr Claus will be making an appearance with his very own grotto in our arcade. Don't worry if it's a little chilly as in our boutique we'll have mulled wine to warm you up!
Last week London's Time Out magazine did a little feature on our boutique. Burlesque artiste Ophelia Bitz explored the lingerie boutiques of London from good old Marks and Spencer to Rigby and Peller - but classed What Katie Did as 'her pick'. Thanks Ophelia!

There will be radio silence as far as blogs are concerned over the next few days as I'm off to the Rhythm Riot tomorrow but if anything exciting happens I'll be sure to update you on
Twitter.
Victoria Beckham in What Katie Did
I've a bone to pick with that Perez Hilton. He's not being very complimentary about the new fashion for 'cone bras'. He says that he's never seen anyone in LA wear one. I think he's just jealous that they don't look good on boys! Victoria Beckham (currently a resident of LA) is December's Harper's Bazaar cover girl and pictured wearing our Padded Bullet Bra on the opening page of a shoot which uses a lot of vintage inspired lingerie and the odd 'cone bra' (still with us Perez?!) I wish that Harpers had done one of those super-posh folding out covers as the cover picture is the one that features our bullet bra - but poor old Victoria has been decapitated so we can't see it! Here at What Katie Did we're so pleased that Victoria has found her niche. The fashion journalists were waiting to scratch her first collection to pieces with their perfectly manicured nails. Victoria kept calm and concentrated on what was then her secret talent, and now has them swooning at her Louboutin heels!
We've been waiting with baited breath for December's Harpers as it was our 'big call-in' of the season but you never know if anything makes the final edit until the magazine is published. It's the first time we've had any editorial in Harpers and as an avid admirer of their fashion shoots it's a privilege to see What Katie Did featured in one.

The Daily Mail say that our bullet bras are the best!
A couple of days ago John Lewis announced that the sales of their 'cone bra' (by which they mean a soft cup bra - nothing to do with what we class as a cone bra!) were up 10% on the preceding week. For some reason this has resulted in a press frenzy and today's Daily Mail has put three of them to the test. Guess which one they decided was the best? Well, we do have nearly 10 years experience! The 3 brands they featured were What Katie Did (our Lulu bullet bra below), Rigby and Peller (who's bra was returned to us by mistake and is identical to ours apart from a little padding) and in third place, John Lewis.

Bernie Dexter in What Katie Did
I had a nice surprise this morning when Bernie Dexter emailed me over pictures from a new campaign she's starring in for Ellies Shoes who specialise in showgirl style heels. The pictures were taken by Danielle Bedics who I've been a big fan of for several years. Danielle took a little break from photography for the last couple of years and I've really missed her work so it's great to see two of my favourite girls working together. Bernie wore our Lily lingerie and 15 denier contrast seamed stockings for the shoot and I'm sure you'll agree that they look fabulous with Ellies Shoes.

We'll have our Lily lingerie available in our boutique at the Goodwood Revival show this weekend. Don't forget that we're not in the main trading area but are located in the centre of the track to the left of the Earls Court Motorshow.
What Katie Did in British Vogue

Many years ago I was discussing the passing of time with a friend who told me 'just you wait until you're 30, it really starts speeding up then!' She was right, but what she didn't tell me that once you hit 35 time starts to spiral out of control. Whilst in my head I'm still thinking it's March, we are in fact in September and at What Katie Did we're currently working on designs for next March. No wonder I never know if I'm coming or going.
This problem is made worse by magazines who work 3 months in advance and whos cover dates are invariably a month after they actually come out. Vogue magazine have done a rather festive 'Winter Warmer' supplement which is rather alarming with it only being early September and the warmest it's been all summer (although the magazine is dated October which is quite close to the frosty season). The supplement features our Harlow bullet bra as part of a 'barely there' lingerie feature, and from the picture (highlighted by my red star) you can see that is it barely there! I can assure you that it is more visible in the magazine.
