Vintage lingerie on the catwalk
Our peach ballet knickers were featured in the Sunday Express's S magazine a couple of weeks ago as part of a cute pin up inspired shoot. Unfortunately they're not £14 as printed, but the good news is that they're not orange either!

I'm sure you won't have missed the influx of vintage inspired lingerie on the catwalks recently. A few months ago I came across a vintage bra with an art deco inspired sunburst detail on the cup. I'd never seen anything like it but guessed it dated back to the 1940s. I had it on my mannequin in the office for weeks and everyone loved it, but agreed that it would be very uncomfortable to wear as there is vertical boning along the sunburst design on the cup. In the end I incorporated the stitching design into, what became, our Deco bra. Imagine my surprise when I opened February's Vogue to find bra almost identical to my original vintage piece parading down Just Cavalli's runway.

What Katie Did in The Daily Telegraph
The Daily Telegraph is one of the few publications we've never been featured in. We had a false alarm a few months ago when they borrowed our bullet bras for a 'Mad Men' shoot, they even got as far as asking us style numbers and prices, but although our next door neighbour (alas, my arms never grew long enough for broadsheets) kept a close eye on the fashion pages for weeks, nothing appeared. We had an email from the Telegraph on Monday letting us know that a new fashion shoot, including our bullet bras would be published today. They were, but unfortunately were all pictured under clothing: the picture below shows the clearest shot by far or our Harlow bullet bra. Well, you win some and lose some and we've certainly had more than our fair share of good press recently!

What Katie Did in Vogue Nippon
Our worldwide Vogue campaign continues! This week we're in Vogue Nippon who appear to have fallen heavily for our Glamour shapewear. The pictures feature (top to bottom), our Glamour bustier (right hand side), Glamour bra and Glamour corselette. Being based out in the sticks makes keeping up with international press very difficult so I have to thank one of our stockists - Faire Frou Frou in LA - for pointing me in the direction of Fashion Gone Rogue, a website which covers the best fashion shoots from magazines world wide. If you're into fashion make sure you have plenty of time to look at the site as the first time you visit you'll loose an afternoon in a blink!

Claudia Schiffer in What Katie Did
Last month I blogged about our successful run of lingerie featured in UK Vogue and said that our luck was sure to run out soon. Sure enough it did, and December's issue contained nothing by What Katie Did (although it does have a very interesting feature by Helena Bonham Carter about corsets).
Thank goodness Vogue is published in other countries as this month we have had our Jane bullet bra in French Vogue (a little late as it was discontinued months ago - but they insisted on having it!) and a girdle on Lara Stone in Italian Vogue (again, discontinued but they were desperate!) but the piece de resistance is our Maitresse bullet bra worn by Claudia Schiffer in Russian Vogue.

What Katie Did in Fabulous Magazine
I'm so pleased I was nice about Fabulous magazine last week - as they've used our lingerie again this week! Yesterdays edition included a 1940s inspired shoot titled 'Fashion Sirens' which focused on figure hugging dresses and nipped in waists. They featured our Glamour Merry Widow which includes power mesh waist shaping bands for that vintage hourglass silhouette (the straps are detachable making it ideal for wearing with strapless evening gowns).

Victoria Beckham in What Katie Did
I've a bone to pick with that Perez Hilton. He's not being very complimentary about the new fashion for 'cone bras'. He says that he's never seen anyone in LA wear one. I think he's just jealous that they don't look good on boys! Victoria Beckham (currently a resident of LA) is December's Harper's Bazaar cover girl and pictured wearing our Padded Bullet Bra on the opening page of a shoot which uses a lot of vintage inspired lingerie and the odd 'cone bra' (still with us Perez?!) I wish that Harpers had done one of those super-posh folding out covers as the cover picture is the one that features our bullet bra - but poor old Victoria has been decapitated so we can't see it! Here at What Katie Did we're so pleased that Victoria has found her niche. The fashion journalists were waiting to scratch her first collection to pieces with their perfectly manicured nails. Victoria kept calm and concentrated on what was then her secret talent, and now has them swooning at her Louboutin heels!
We've been waiting with baited breath for December's Harpers as it was our 'big call-in' of the season but you never know if anything makes the final edit until the magazine is published. It's the first time we've had any editorial in Harpers and as an avid admirer of their fashion shoots it's a privilege to see What Katie Did featured in one.

The Daily Mail say that our bullet bras are the best!
A couple of days ago John Lewis announced that the sales of their 'cone bra' (by which they mean a soft cup bra - nothing to do with what we class as a cone bra!) were up 10% on the preceding week. For some reason this has resulted in a press frenzy and today's Daily Mail has put three of them to the test. Guess which one they decided was the best? Well, we do have nearly 10 years experience! The 3 brands they featured were What Katie Did (our Lulu bullet bra below), Rigby and Peller (who's bra was returned to us by mistake and is identical to ours apart from a little padding) and in third place, John Lewis.

Vintage style lingerie for SS10
Paris fashion week, showcasing SS10 rtw collections, has just finished. I was very much looking forward to seeing what the designers would come up with, espcially Dior, after seeing it's couture AW09 collection which was a complete 1950s lingerie fest. The ready to wear collections tend to be a lot more wearable and commercial than the couture collections but Dior again featured a lot of lingerie as outerwear for SS10.
Two of my favourite outfits were the sheer orange dress over vintage style peach lingerie (try our Glamour bustier and Glamour girdle for a similar look) and black bra under sheer red (try our Maitresse bullet bra).

Jean Paul Gaultier is a well known fan of vintage lingerie. The bottle for his first perfume was inspired by his grandmother's foundation garments whilst he's also famous for designing Madonna's conical bras of the early 1990s. He has tended to go for a more 1940s look than Dior - below right (try our CC09 bra for a similar look), although I couldn't resist showing you a picture of his long peach dress with bullet bra cups - I love it!

To see more of the SS10 collections go to Style.com. I don't need to tell you 'where to get the look' but be quick as The Daily Mail featured What Katie Did early this week as Vogue's secret source for vintage style lingerie!
Patsy Kensit in What Katie Did

I have to admit one of my guilty little pleasures is gossip magazines. I can get away with pretending that they're 'work' as several of them regularly borrow items from What Katie Did for shoots, including News of the World's Fabulous magazine.
Today Fabulous magazine launches Heels that Heal which involves celebrities auctioning their high heels, as well as a whole range of other goodies, for the charity Wellbeing of Women (which funds vital research into reproductive and gynaecological health). We're lucky enough to have Patsy Kensit model our Glamour corselette alongside her heels.
If any of you share my guilty pleasure I recommend that you read Piers Morgan's 'The Insider' which covers his 10 years at the helm of The Mirror. It's very interesting to find out exactly what goes on behind the scenes - naughty celebrities are often given the benefit of the doubt and appear to rely on the tabloids as much as the tabloids rely on them.
In the Press

This week's Reveal Magazine (cover dated 5-11 Sept) have done a little feature called '30 things every stylish woman should have' which includes our Striptease Ballet knickers and bralette. Their recommendations which we approve of include matching lingerie, a red lipstick (we love Besame), killer heels, an amazing hairstylist (try Nina's Vintage Hair Parlour), a vintage dress, a style trademark and a classic scent. Recommendations we're not so sure about include control shorts, surely a lovely corselette would do the job a lot more stylishly?!
