Katie opens a can of worms
We're on the cover of new magazine 'Just as Beautiful' and have to admit that we're rather confused. Not by the Sarah waspie which is worn back to front, or the fact that our Sarah lingerie was discontinued back in August (these things happen!), but rather, the use of the words 'just as'. The magazine is aimed at women with curves who, obviously, are 'just as' beautiful as women without them. Why, oh why, couldn't they have just called the magazine 'Beautiful' then I'd only have to get stressed out about the waspie being on back to front? Anyhow, the good old Daily Mail has given the magazine a big feature today (Thursday) so they should sell a few issues through that, and I've ordered a copy for WKD so I'll let you know what I think when it arrives. I wonder if it'll be 'just as' good as Vogue (enough already!)

What Katie Did at Goodwood Revival
What Katie Did spent last weekend at Goodwood Revival: the biggest vintage motor racing event in the UK. It's not just motor racing though, as the vast majority of visitors wear vintage or vintage inspired clothing and get (almost) as much attention as the cars! Even if you're not at all interested in cars it's still a great day out as there is lots of shopping and attractions which, this year, included a 1950s style circus and Ealing film studio. It's definitely our favourite event of the year and if you haven't been yet, clear your diary for 2011!

What Katie Did and Office Shoes
Here at What Katie Did we're a big fan of Office footwear and are delighted to be included in their Autumn magazine. Office have used What Katie Did's Lulu bullet bra and knickers which we think look splendid when worn with their 'Simple Minds' shoes. What else do you need?!

What Katie Did on Jaime Winstone (nearly!)
What Katie Did's Harlow bullet bra is credited in Look magazine this week, worn by actress Jaime Winstone. Unfortunately it's a near miss, as it actually looks like a vintage piece (most of the other clothing she wore in the shoot was vintage). Oh well, at least you know where to 'get the look!'

What Katie Did in You Magazine
Over the last few months we've sent lots of lingerie to the Mail on Sunday's You magazine but as far as we're aware have never had anything actually fetured(I'm not strong enough to carry all the Sunday papers home and rely on our next door neighbour throwing his copy over the fence to us mid-afternoon which isn't the most reliable way of doing things I suppose...) Luckily, You magazine are slightly more organized than us, and not only did the feature What Katie Did's Josephine lingerie set in last week's edition, but they sent us a copy too! Thank you You!

What Katie Did in Vogue and Elle
October's British Vogue includes a supplement on stress free shopping and inside you'll find two pages on recreating the 'New Look' look.
Writer Harriet Quick says: '...back to those cone shaped inserts, which I've managed to nestle into a pale pink satin bra from What Katie Did. Brilliantly my breasts have been sculpted and shot forward, creating triangular
peaks. With this shape silhouette, suddenly my prejudice against cardigans evaporates. A leopard-print cardi from Laura Ashley now feels thrilling not tame.'

Thank you to Cille who emailed a couple of days ago to let us know we're in Danish Elle. What Katie Did stockist Femme Fatale supplied the our Harlow and Maitresse bullet bras for the shoot which looks suitably dark and mysterious.

What Katie Did in Love Magazine
Our Maitresse Knickers make a discreet appearance in the lastest issue of Love magazine. Although the magazine is packed full of beautiful images my favourite is an ad for Guess early on the magazine which includes vintage style lingerie and harks back to the days when Anna Nicole Smith added high glamour to their campaigns.

What Katie Did in Vogue Paris
Only a couple of days ago I blogged about how much the press loved our Padded Bullet Bra - and it's turned up again, this time in September's Vogue Paris! Real silver screen glamour is involved this time as it's worn by actress Marion Cotillard who won an Oscar for her leading roll playing Édith Piaf in La vie en rose. We've just introduced a nifty little gadget to our site: if we've had any press for a garment you'll see a 'press' tab on the right hand side of the product info card - click it and you'll see the related press pictures.

What Katie Did in India
I spent last week in India working on samples in
our main factory. Normally I go alone, but this year I was joined by wholesale
manager Richard who instantly fell in love with the country (although he's still
coming to terms with the traffic which makes London rush hour look like a quiet
Sunday afternoon drive). A lot of lingerie companies make samples in the UK
before going into production overseas. We find it a lot easier to work on
samples in the actual factory that will be producing the garment, that way we're
instantly aware of any problems that might arise: and generally there are a few!
Spending time in the factories we work with also allows us to get to know
everyone and get to know the manufacturing process. It really is fascinating
seeing everything being made: it takes 6 different machines just to make a
bullet bra!
One of the most difficult things when starting a
lingerie company is finding a reliable factory: especially when you start at a
tiny scale like we did. Although initially we worked with a British factory we
had lots of quality issues (when we complained we were told our customers were
too fat, causing seams to break - as a footnote the factory is no longer in
business!) As we were so tiny no other British factory would even talk to us.
We've been working with our Indian factory for nearly 10 years and now there are
about 22 people who work on What Katie Did lingerie exclusively (a third row of
machinists to the left hand side isn't shown).
We spent our time working on our AW11 collection (which we're keeping
under wraps a the moment) and also revamping some of our Glamour shapewear.
Richard is so excited about the new Glamour additions that instead of waiting
for the launch of our SS11 collection, he wants them out as soon as possible -
all being well by the beginning of December in time for the party season.
